Repair open-path gaps without blindly closing every contour.

Path Closer scans the active artboard or a selected part of the document, removes specific stray and empty objects, closes coincident endpoints and eligible small gaps, and sends uncertain or protected paths to a one-by-one review workflow.

HOW PATH CLOTHSER WORKS

Select an object or work artboard to work

RUN PATH CLOTHSER

Choose File > Scripts > Other Script and select Path Closer.jsx. If permanently installed, choose File > Scripts > Path Closer.

1. Activate the required artboard.

2. Choose Active artboard and Small gaps - recommended.

RESULT

Eligible debris is removed, coincident Scissors cuts and safe small gaps are closed, and unresolved paths are counted for

NO MORE FINDING AND FIXING EVERY OPEN PATH BY HAND.

HOW PATH CLOSER WORKS

  • Save a duplicate and choose Active artboard or Selected artwork.
  • Choose the relative gap limit: 1%, 3%, or 5%.
  • Decide whether stroke-only paths may close.
  • Click START and read the cleanup and open-path report.
  • Review unresolved paths individually or select them all in Illustrator.
  • Inspect the artwork at high zoom before saving.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Adobe Illustrator 2025, 2026
  • macOS or Windows
  • An open document with editable artwork on the active artboard or in a valid selection.
  • A saved backup or duplicate before processing.
  • Operating-system compatibility is not independently confirmed in the guide.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

  • Hidden artwork, guides, and clipping-mask contours are protected.
  • Real gaps in Compound Path contours are left for review; coincident Scissors cuts may close.
  • Cleanup can remove untitled one- or two-anchor paths, even a stroked two-anchor path.
  • The script changes the Illustrator selection.
  • Manual closing can alter a fill or add a visible stroke segment.
  • Opacity-mask contents are not inspected.
